Feitian’s Slimtag: a secure and practical alternative to Apple’s AirTags

Apple’s AirTags are tracking devices that make it easy to find lost or misplaced items, thanks to Bluetooth technology and the Find My app. However, these accessories have a few drawbacks, such as price, size, battery life and respect for privacy. We have already had articles about Feitian Technologies. And recently, we had the pleasure of receiving a new product, the Slimtag.
The Slimtag is a tracking device in the form of a thin, light card that slips easily into a wallet, a pocket or a bag. It is compatible with Apple’s Find My app, but it also offers an additional feature: multi-factor authentication. Indeed, the Slimtag can serve as a security key to protect your online accounts, using NFC (Near Field Communication) technology. As you could see, the Slimtag is disarmingly easy to use.
The Slimtag has several advantages over Apple’s AirTags:
- It is cheaper: the Slimtag costs around 30 euros, compared with 35 euros for one AirTag and 120 euros for a pack of four AirTags.
- It is more discreet: the Slimtag measures 85 x 54 x 1.5 mm, compared with 31.9 x 31.9 x 8 mm for an AirTag. It does not need a key ring or an additional case to be attached to an item.
- It is more secure: the Slimtag offers a dual tracking and authentication function, which strengthens the protection of your personal data. The AirTag, on the other hand, can be used for malicious purposes, such as stalking or information theft.
Feitian’s Slimtag is an innovative product that combines two functions: a multi-factor authentication (MFA) key and an item tracker compatible with the Apple Find My software. Feitian’s Slimtag uses the FIDO (Fast Identity Online) standard to provide secure, passwordless authentication on the websites and applications that support it.
